30 Days to a More Spiritual Life
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (15 August, 2000)
Author: Shana Aborn

Thank you, Ms. Aborn
Life really is too short, as are years, months, days, hours, minutes. They whiz by, leaving me breathless. How wonderful to steal a moment, two or three, to incorporate silence and contemplation, to consider my place in the world, what's inside of me, the source of that voice in my head that keeps whispering, "Slow down. Appreciate. Enjoy." Thank you, Ms Aborn, for your beautifully written and deeply felt book. I have to admit, your book opened doors I walked through, sometimes with excitement, other times with trepidation, to discover myself and what I believe....as you call it in the book, my credo. "30 Days" is a wonderful book, a small gift that has the power to change lives. It's a blueprint to look inside ourselves and discover or rediscover God.

A Great Gift
Hey, the holidays are coming. I know what I'll be giving the people I love. "30 Days" is a great gift book. It gives solid advice, offering a blueprint to slow down and enjoy life, get in tune with your Higher Being. It's true, "The world is too much with us." What a relief to find a measure of solitude and peace. I have to admit, I didn't do all the exercises. I don't think you have to. Pick those you enjoy and go for it. The difference it can make in your life is astounding.

A Way to Get Back in Touch With What's Really Important

The Circle: How the Power of a Single Wish Can Change Your Life
Published in Hardcover by J. P. Tarcher (06 September, 2001)
Author: Laura Day
Average review score:

The little book with Big ideas
The subtitle, "How The Power of a Single Wish Can Change Your Life," says it all. The circle is a place where you align your energy (thought, word and deed) with the universal energy and focus it on making your wish come true. Day takes the reader through the three phases of the circle - Initiation, Apprenticeship and Master. Each phase contains three elements or steps to total nine steps in all. Of course, you're never really finished. Once you manifest one wish, you start the process all over again with another wish. What I love about the book is that it gives the reader something to do. After each essay explaining the "element," the author gives an action that the reader can do to illustrate concept. Readers are encouraged to live their wish or "New Reality" now. As for the actual writing, it's a small book and a very easy read. If you follow all the steps, however, it's a book that will be with you for a while. And if you do follow the steps to mastery, your wish (whatever it is) will certainly come true.

The Power of One Wish can change your life
Laura Day explains in practical terms the magical and the mystical ability of transforming your own life. You have the power, you have the ability and you can create whatever you desire.

Through the circle I have found an excellent job in a bad economy, a wonderful man with similiar interests and the hidden power that we all possess to have what makes us happy and to live life in true and ultimate joy.

Read this book, buy this book, give it to your friends and families and know that life has much happiness in store for you. All you have to do is reach out and select it!

Life changing
The Circle is basically an outline of steps on how to change your life. It isn't mystical - these are practical steps to take in order to achieve success. The book is short and the message is simple. You make the commitment by making a wish first and then Laura Day takes you through each step in achieving this wish. She helps you to identify common mistakes made and why you haven't reached your goal until now. She also tells you what you should expect in keeping with The Circle. Sometimes what looks like a negative result is actually a positive one and she encourages you to perservere by showing you what will come of completing the steps. I highly recommend this book even over Laura Day's other books which are longer and can get overly involved. This book will help you with career, love, money or anything else that you've always desired in life but have never been able to grasp.

Counting Kisses
Published in Hardcover by Margaret K. McElderry (01 January, 2001)
Author: Karen Katz
Average review score:

Wonderful Book - A FAVORITE in our house
I got this book for my older son when he was just a few months old. He is 2 now and this is one of his all-time favorite books. It's fun to read and what child doesn't love getting kissed?? His baby brother also enjoys it when we read this book. My parents visited from out of state recently and I videotaped them reading a few books, this one included. My toddler asks me to fast forward so that he can hear his grandpa read this story and watch them on TV. We give this book often as a gift because it is such a favorite.

Kisses Good Night.....
"My tired little baby, do you need a kiss?" A cranky, crying, sleepy little one is about to go to bed. But first she needs "ten little kisses on teeny tiny toes" and "nine laughing kisses on busy, wriggly feet" from Mommy. Daddy's ready with "eight squishy kisses on chubby, yummy knees." Grandma plants "seven loud kisses on a pretty belly button." And so on... Baby is passed from one member of the family to the next for her good night kisses, and even the dog and cat get into the act..... Karen Katz's minimal text is engaging and filled with lots of love and charming descriptive words. Her bright and playful illustrations are large and inviting, rich in bold color and eye-catching shapes and patterns. Together word and art offer gentle, fun-filled opportunities to practice counting and to identify different body parts. Perfect for preschoolers as young as one, Counting Kisses is a sweet and heartwarming little book youngsters will beg to add to their bedtime ritual. "...two gentle kisses on tired closing eyes, one last kiss on your sleepy, dreamy head, and now it's time for baby's bed."

Sweet story!
What child (and parent) doesn't love kisses! This is a wonderful book that is fun to act out as you read it. It's one of my daughter's favorites.

Definition: Shape Without Bulk in 15 Minutes a Day!
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (October, 1995)
Author: Joyce L. Vedral
Average review score:

Great workout .......check out Joyce's web site too!
I purchased this book and wrote to the Joyce Vedral ........... She wrote me back the next day and told me what videos to use and gave me a detailed workout plan based on the info that I sent her. I am very pleased with the book and the videos as they both deliver fast results! Also, Joyce is very motivating and upbeat which makes the book and videos that much better.

Highly recommended!

A great workout that's easy to follow and gives results fast
I followed Joyce's workout and modified my eating habits by reducing portions, not the kind of food I ate. I lifted weights according to her plan three days per week and added aerobics by walking/jogging 30-45 minutes a day three days per week. I lost 21 pounds in two months and am maintaining. I have been doing this for three and one half months. I am switching to her Top Shape workout. I am a 54 year old male.

Definition: Shape without bulk in 15 minutes a day
Do you have 15 minutes? Yes you do! Joyce Vedral's a genious. I can now get my weight training workout in just 15-30 minutes a day. You can choose to do either 15 or 30 minutes. I can do both my cardio and weights thanks to Joyce's workout. You see, she does the true pyramid system and works your muscles in a fast effecient way and you rest very little so you sweat and burn more calories since you aren't resting so much. She does alot of sets. For example, the first chest exercise, you do 12 reps with your light weight(say 5lbs) doing chest press. Then without resting, you do 12 reps of chest flies. Then you pick up your next weight and do 10 reps with your medium weight of chest press and chest flie. Then do 8 reps with your heaviest weight of chest press and chest flies. Then repeat everything on an incline. You can use your step bench if you don't have a weight bench. Of course you work your entire body. For upper body you do chest, triceps, shoulders, biceps, back and then your abs,hips/thighs, butt, and calves.

This workout has completely reshaped my body! I am seeing muscles that I've never seen before. I've used many other different exercise videos and nothing worked. I use Joyce's books and her videos too. You can get her Definition videos on her web site(

Joyce gives detailed directions to go with this workout. She also has great pictures. Joyce is so motivating too. She writes in a way that makes you laugh and it's so hard to put down! I always rotate reading her books for motivation. I've read so many books out there and Joyce Vedral's books are the BEST I've ever read.
I'm so thankful that now we have the answer to our problem areas. Joyce gives it to us for a small price. It's so much cheaper than a personal trainer or gym membership. I am forever grateful to Joyce for changing my life and writing a 5 star review for her is all I can do to say thanks to her. Hopefully you will read this and get her book and see for yourself. Put on your favorite music, get Joyce book out and get your weights and start changing your body today!

Bravo! Hayden delivers a self-marketing solution that works!
C.J. Hayden provides an efficient, user-friendly, step-by-step program that anyone can customize and follow. It leaves postulating and theorizing to those who want to simply talk about self-promotion and marketing, and pragmatically zeros in on creating the action plan needed to materialize success. I know, because I tried the program to increase my own client base and it worked. I also introduced the program to a number of my small business clients, and we all want to thank C.J. for this significant contribution to courageous entrepreneurs everywhere!

This is a system that works
C.J. Hayden has taken the mystery out of marketing. She has written a book that is easy to read, easy to understand and most importantly easy to follow. The gold in this book is the worksheets. They take the theory to practice and create a step by step process that leads to profits. In the first 28 days, I added $5000.00 to my bottom line! The focus and clarity this program creates is amazing. Anyone trying to grow a business without this book is doing it the hard way.

Have Wheels, Will Travel (Amazing Days of Abby Hayes, 4)

Amazing Days Of Abby Hayes are sure amazing!
This is one of the best books i have ever read! It shows how abby wants to buy some new roller blades but cant afford them. Some of the things she thinks of for money are pretty funny! Overall this book is THE BEST!

This book and all the others in the series is a must read!...
This is one of my faveorite books in the Abby Hayes series. Anne Mazer writes this book in such a fun way, this book is definitly a not to be skipped!

'Amazing Days of Abby Hayes' are GREAT!!!
This and the rest of the Abby Hayes series are amazing! The books are wonderful and very cool. There is one problem though: Anne Mazer (the writer) repeats the same thing over and over. Like about Abby's friend Jessica and how she has asthma. That kind of gets frustrating. But, overall, this book is great!

Wharton on Dynamic Competitive Strategy
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (May, 1997)
Authors: George S. Day and David J. Reibstein
Average review score:

A well-chosen set of essays
A well-chosen set of essays is compiled, based on a 4-level framework: i)Analyze the competitive environment, ii)Anticipate competitor's actions & reactions, iii) Formulate Dynamic Strategies, iv) Choose among alternative strategies. The book provides a great way to update one's strategy knowledge.
But I find 'Mastering Strategy: The Complete MBA Companion in Strategy' by Financial Times Editors to be a better book with greater depth and broader spectrum.

A Must Read for Business Leaders and Consultants
This book is wonderful. Unlike many business books which take one very simple concept and drive it into the ground over 400 pages, Wharton on Dynamic Competitive Strategy has several (17) discrete topics which are interlinked through common themes. Need to understand applications of game theory to strategy formulation? Want to understand how to structure scenario analysis for a working session with a group of business unit directors? This book will help you understand some very academic concepts with very real, material impact when used properly.

This is also a great book for MBA students who want to understand a topic before taking to a whole class.

One final point, the caliber of the authors is incredible. Each author is writing about his/her specific areas of expertise, and the topics are extremely timely.

These are my opinions alone and not necessarily those of my employer.

Essential strategy handbook
This book is amazingly well written and goes from the basics of strategy to more complex subjects such as game theory. But the best of it is not the wide variety of strategy subjects or the amount of real world examples it uses but the integration between chapters. One can easily read this book at once or skip to chapters that are more interesting to him/her.

I consider this book essential for MBA students, management consultants and managers in general. Excellent choice!

Carl's Afternoon in the Park
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (October, 1991)
Author: Alexandra Day
Average review score:

The favorite book of both our toddlers!!!
We have a few "Carl" books at our house and "Carl's Afternoon in the Park" is the runaway favorite. Both our children get very excited and run to me when I pick up this book. We often find them paging through it on their own as well. They love the balloons, train, park, children's zoo animals and swing -- not to mention the great Carl! This book has been a wonderful addition to our collection.

The BEST Carl book of all!
This is, by far, the best Carl book (in fact, one of the best of any picture books). My just-turned-two girls have had this book for months, and it is their favorite. Not only is the artwork fantastic, but the book is actually quite clever (I love the scene with the artists painting Carl and the baby in abstract, impressionist and modern art styles). It is filled with spectacular images that grab a toddler's attention, and the detail is enough to keep adults interested, too. Even after reading the book many times, I still find things I hadn't noticed before. The book includes a carousel, flower garden, balloons, ice cream, train, petting zoo (with seals???), slide and much more ... plenty to show and teach your children! [As a side note, apart from this book and "Good Dog, Carl", the other Carl books fall short of our expectations]

response to "wayn3 of Warsaw NY"
"Wayn3 of Warsaw NY" needs to LIGHTEN UP and GET A LIFE re: Good Dog Carl review! If you had any slight amount of intellect and insight, you would figure out that children's books are about fantasy, imagination and FUN! It's not about social services, CPS and child abandonment! I'll bet you're a real bore about your children reading/watching Lord of The Rings and/or Harry Potter if this is the case. Good Dog Carl books are some of the best displayed relationships shared between children and their dogs and how they are loyal to one another. I happen to own a Rottweiler and he is one the most gentle dogs in the family w/ all the children and they love him. Get a grip!!

Decisive Day: The Battle for Bunker Hill
Published in Paperback by Owl Books (May, 1999)
Author: Richard M. Ketchum
Average review score:

Magnificent Story
This is one of the best written books I have ever read about the American Revolution. Ketchum is a very accomplished writer. Though at times his prose is slightly confusing, overall he does a good job of conveying to his readers the desperate situation the American rebels were in. Ketchum also does a good job of placing the Battle of Bunker Hill in context of the entire war. He picks up the story about 3 weeks before the battle, and fills in the back story of Lexington and Concord. His description of the events leading up to the battle, especially the description of the night march and entrenchment of American troops is fascinating, and keeps you turning the pages. The actual battle only fills one chapter, simply because it was a very straightforward affair. Amazingly, out of about 3000 men engaged on both sides, 1500 were casualties! However, Ketchum makes it very clear that the Americans gave worse then they got, and shows how Bunker Hill would become a confidence booster for the American Cause.

My only complaint about the book is the lack of a good map of the area. Ketchum uses contemporary drawings of Boston to show the places he is describing, but these are not very accurrate and you never really get a picture of where the battle took place in relation to other landmarks. However, this does not detract from the narrative, and I strongly reccommend reading this book, for anyone of any level of interest in the era.

Compelling Description of Important American Battle
This is the first Revolutionary War book that I have read, so I consider myself a novice in this field. Having said that, I have a fair amount of military history and really enjoyed this book. Ketcham's account of this famous battle is detailed, well researched, well written, and easy to follow. He does an excellent job of telling the story of what happened during this dramatic battle from both the American and British perspective. Addtionally, he gives extensive background information about the key events, and players that are involved in this "high stakes" battle without boring you.

I learned a lot about the battle, and feel that I have a much better understanding, and appreciation for what took place on that fateful afternoon. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the battle, or learning more about the men who fought the Revolution, and the odds they faced.

Superb account of the Battle of Bunker (Breed¿s) Hill!
This is a beautifully written book, the first of three written so far by Richard Ketchum, on famous Revolutionary War battles. It tells the story of the first major military engagement of the American Revolution as does no other book I've ever read on the same subject.

The author brings to life the main characters and events of the story. He briefly introduces the major figures - British Generals Thomas Gage and William Howe, and American leaders Joseph Warren, General Israel Putnam, Colonel William Prescott, and Henry Knox - and traces the story of the conflict in the Boston area in the spring of 1775. Ketchum then sets the scene of the battle by describing how the Americans, chronically short of munitions, supplies and manpower, successfully avoided British detection and entrenched themselves on Breed's Hill (mistaking it for the higher Bunker Hill), and how the British reacted once they discovered the fortifications. Drawing on letters and other first-person accounts of the battle's participants and observers, both the American and British, Ketchum vividly describes the military action of June 17, 1775; I found myself almost able to hear the firing of guns, and smell the smoke of battle, as I read the final chapters of the book.

As an avid reader of American History, I thought I knew everything about battle of Bunker Hill; however, Ketchum's powerfully written narrative introduced me to many new facts about the people and events of this, the first major battle in America's war for independence. It is a book of outstanding scholarship, and "must read" for anyone interested in American history.

Good Goats: Healing Our Image of God
Published in Paperback by Paulist Press (June, 1994)
Authors: Dennis Linn, Sheila Fabricant Linn, and Matthew Linn
Average review score:

excellent, simple explanation of basic Catholic concepts
For all those who have misunderstandings of basic Catholic teachings, this book will free you of unwanted ideas about God. The readablity also makes this a great selection for all adult and teen readers. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for God but is caught in images that are not life giving. Pictures are humorous and also lead to a symbolic understanding as well as the cognitive input.

Profoundly rehaped my belief system
I discovered this book by accident and am SO glad I did. While it was written by Roman Catholics it certainly is not exclusive to them. I am a Presbyterian and I have shared it with people of other faiths who enjoyed it as much as I did. "God loves us at least as much as the person who loves us most." This is the jumping off point for this book. If we can accept this idea then it follows that we need not fear divine retribution. God has and will continue to make an infinite number of attempts at reconciliation with us. Because He loves us. This is the only book I have ever felt compelled to share with my co-workers. Give it a shot. You won't be dissapointed.

I finally found the "God" I've been searching for!
All my life I've been burdened by a punishing and vengeful image of God. After reading this book, I feel that for the first time, I actually drew a peaceful breath. This book has given me a wonderful feeling of hope that I too will be saved. I think that no catechism should ever be distributed without a copy of this book. I love my new "God", even if he/she is just a cartoon image of love.
